DOE APPOINTS GEORGE ROBERTS TO ADVISORY BOARD

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Oak Ridge Site Specific Advisory Board (ORSSAB) welcomed Heiskell, Tennessee resident George Roberts as its newest board member.  The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) appointed Roberts to the Board during its April board meeting and John Eschenberg, DOE’s Oak Ridge assistant manager for Environmental Management made the announcement.

Roberts served the United States Air Force for 22 years, achieving the rank of captain.  While in the service, he worked as a radio maintenance technician, a nuclear power plant operator/maintenance technician, a radar maintenance officer, and a squadron commander of a 1,000-person unit.  After the Air Force he worked for Precision Disc Corporation as a plant engineer until his retirement in 1990.

In addition to his ORSSAB appointment, Roberts serves as a member of the Anderson County Board of Zoning Appeals.  He was a member of The Dream Connection, a non-profit organization dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of children 3-18 facing life threatening illnesses in Knoxville for 15 years.

ORSSAB is the federally appointed citizens’ panel that provides recommendations to the DOE Oak Ridge Environmental Management Program that is responsible for the cleanup of the Oak Ridge Reservation.

ORSSAB meets monthly on the second Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the DOE Information Center in Oak Ridge.  The Board and committee meetings are open to the public, and meeting notices are available on the Board’s Web site: www.oakridge.doe.gov/em/ssab.
