At a regular meeting of the Site Specific Advisory Board (SSAB) held April 16, 1998, the board identified comments on the PGDP’s draft Environmental Assessment of the potential impacts from construction and operation of the Vortec Corporation Cyclone Melting System technology. With seven regular members present, the board voted 6-1 in favor of this recommendation.

RECOMMENDATION:

The majority of board members present at the April 16, 1998 meeting recommends that the Department of Energy not use a Finding of No Significant Impact to proceed with the Vortec project’s 30-day pilot test. Instead, the board proposes an Environmental Impact Statement that will include cumulative impacts from other sources.

The one dissenting member voiced support for permitting the 30-day trial run which would provide data for evaluating Vortec efficiency.
