At a regular meeting of the Site Specific Advisory Board (SSAB) held Sept. 18, 1997, the board identified comments on the PGDP’s "Community Relation Plan for the Environmental Management and Enrichment Facilities Program."

COMMENTS:

  1. If DOE proposes an action that affects a particular group of citizens, then that group of citizens should be notified specifically.
  2. The SSAB questions the plan’s date given for the discovery of groundwater contamination.

  1. DOE should place ads or articles in media around the region giving an address and phone number where citizens can get on the mailing list to receive notices about the cleanup of the plant.
  2. DOE should appoint a full-time public affairs officer at Paducah.
  3. The CRP should indicate the methodology used to do the community interviews and to make them statistically accurate in representing the community point of view. Also, when the CRP is updated next year, the community interviews should be done in a scientifically accepted methodology to accurately reflect the community’s attitude toward the cleanup.
